Who Can Apply for an Umrah Visa?
Muslim pilgrims from all over the world can apply for an Umrah visa. Key eligibility criteria:
Must be Muslim (you attest to this in the application)
Valid passport with at least 6 months validity
Women under 45 must travel as part of a licensed group or with a mahram (male guardian). In 2022, Saudi Arabia relaxed rules allowing women over 45 to travel in groups without mahram — and this policy has been extended further in 2026.
Complete vaccination requirements (see below)

Best Time to Perform Umrah in 2026
Umrah can be performed any time except during the days of Hajj (Dhul Hijja 8–13). Each season has different characteristics:
Ramadan (Best Spiritually)
Performing Umrah in Ramadan is equivalent in reward to Hajj, according to hadith. The Grand Mosque atmosphere is unparalleled. However, it is the most crowded and expensive time. Prices can double or triple in the last 10 days.
Muharram / Safar (Best for Avoiding Crowds)
The months after Hajj (Muharram and Safar) are the quietest. Prices for flights and hotels are at their lowest. The experience is more personal with shorter tawaf queues.
Sha'ban (Sweet Spot)
One month before Ramadan. Still spiritually significant, moderate crowds, reasonable prices. Ideal for first-time pilgrims who want to prepare for a future Ramadan Umrah.
Summer Months (June–August)
Extremely hot (45–50°C in Makkah). Not recommended for elderly or those with health conditions. But prices are lower and it's manageable for healthy pilgrims who stay well-hydrated.
Essential Tips for First-Time Umrah Pilgrims
Learn the rituals in advance. Watch video tutorials and read guides. Knowing the steps of Tawaf, Sa'i, and how to wear Ihram before you arrive reduces anxiety enormously.
Book accommodation as close to the Haram as possible. Walking distance to Masjid al-Haram is worth the extra cost — it lets you pray Salah in the mosque without stressful transport.
Bring good walking shoes. You will walk 5–10km every day. Comfortable, modest footwear is essential.
Carry Zamzam bottles from the Haram — you're allowed to take a limited amount. Check your airline's liquid restrictions.
Protect your passport and documents. Use a money belt or neck pouch in crowds.
Respect the rules: Modest clothing, no photography inside the Haram, no arguments in the holy precincts.
Use the Haramain app for Haram prayer times and live Makkah/Madinah camera feeds.
